George Kidd

My grandparents William George Kidd and Ellen Matilda Fanning were born in Lanark County, Ontario. My father George Herman Kidd was born in Elm Creek Manitoba. Date of birth was July 21, 1912. He had a sister Ellen Halpenny Kidd. They had a cousin Edgar Herman Kidd from Toronto. I would appreciate any assistant you could provide me with info. about my family and their relationship to the settling of Lanark County.

I'll send information from my files for a few families in your family history - Kidd, Fanning and Leach as a start. Your Kidd line goes back to George Kidd m. Jane Saunders who settled in concession 2, lot 20SW. George died young and Jane then married Samuel Leach who settled in The Derry on lot 22 concession 6.

John Ferguson

I'm very interested in the family of this John Ferguson as the naming patterns used are in a couple of cases very close to my FERGUSON family. Specifically: 5. William Robert Heaton Ferguson, #9868 b. Aug 27 1903 I have a Robert Heaton FERGUSON b. 20/01.1884 in Calcutta, India 5 John ARNOLD Russell Ferguson #9869 b. May 15 1905 d. 1959 I have a John Archibald Russell FERGUSON, b. 11/06/1856, Greenock, Renfrewshire, Scotland. He went on to live and work in India, before returning to Greenock before his death in WW1.

There may be a connection to your Ferguson's as this group left the Parish of Comrie for Canada in 1818, embarking from Greenock on July 21,1818. The full history of Beckwith Township is on-line. This linked page gives the list of those who emigrated from Comrie http://www.ourroots.ca/e/page.aspx?id=1058202 .
The Town of Carleton Place, which is carved out of the township of Beckwith is twinned with Comrie and there are ongoing exchanges between them.

Lackey

I believe there is an error in the maiden name of John Lackey's wife. According to my research into the Lackey family, John Lackey's wife was Sarah Jane Kidney. The registration of her death in Nepean in 1915 shows her parents as William Kidney and Bessie Corrigan, birth place Shawville, Quebec. This is consistent with the 1851 Census showing the family of William, Elizabeth and Sara Jane Kidney in Clarendon.

Thank you for this information. I had previously looked at this certificate, but it didn't fit with the other information which I had found. I will change the information on the website.
